നാരായണ ഗുരുവിന്റെ ദർശനത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പ്രചോദനം ഉൾക്കൊണ്ടു പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ആത്മീയ-വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ പ്രസ്ഥാനമായ നാരായണ ഗുരുകുലത്തിന്റെ അധിപനും, പ്രശസ്ത ആത്മീയ ആചാര്യനും, എഴുത്തുകാരനുമായിരുന്നു ഗുരു മുനി നാരായണ പ്രസാദ് (9 ഡിസംബർ 1938 – 25 ഏപ്രിൽ 2026). ഭാരതീയ തത്ത്വചിന്തയെയും വേദാന്തത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് ഗുരു വിപുലമായി എഴുതുകയും, സങ്കീർണ്ണമായ പരമ്പരാഗത ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങൾ ആധുനിക സമൂഹത്തിന് ലളിതമായി മനസ്സിലാക്കാവുന്ന രീതിയിൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിലൂടെ ശ്രദ്ധേയനാവുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ആദ്യകാല ജീവിതവും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസവും
കേരളത്തിലെ തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിൽ ആറ്റിങ്ങലിനടുത്തുള്ള നഗരൂരിൽ 1938 ഡിസംബർ 9-നാണ് എം.എൻ. പ്രസാദ് ജനിച്ചത്. ഒരു പ്രൈമറി സ്കൂൾ അധ്യാപകന്റെ മകനായിരുന്ന പ്രസാദ്, പിതാവ് പ്രധാനാധ്യാപകനായിരുന്ന സ്കൂളിൽ തന്നെയാണ് പ്രാഥമിക വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയത്. പത്താം ക്ലാസ് പഠനത്തിനു ശേഷം സിവിൽ എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗിൽ ഒരു വർഷത്തെ കോഴ്സ് ചെയ്യുന്നതിനായി പ്രസാദ് ഒരു സാങ്കേതിക-വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ-സ്ഥാപനത്തിൽ ചേർന്നു.
ഗുരുകുല പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിലേക്കുള്ള പ്രവേശം
1955-ൽ ഗുരു നിത്യചൈതന്യ യതിയെ കണ്ടുമുട്ടിയതോടെയാണ് നാരായണ ഗുരുകുല പ്രസ്ഥാനവുമായുള്ള പ്രസാദിന്റെ ആജീവനാന്തബന്ധം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. തിരുവനന്തപുരം എഞ്ചിനീയറിംഗ് കോളേജിലെ ഹ്രസ്വകാല പരിശീലനത്തിനു ശേഷം, 1958-ൽ പ്രസാദ് കേരള സർക്കാർ സർവീസിൽ ഡ്രാഫ്റ്റ്സ്മാനായി ജോലിയിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചു. ഈ കാലയളവിൽ വർക്കല ഗുരുകുലത്തിൽ താമസിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്, ഔദ്യോഗിക ജീവിതവും ആത്മീയ ജീവിതവും ഒരുമിച്ചു മുന്നോട്ടു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.
ആത്മീയ ദീക്ഷയും നേതൃത്വവും
1970 ജനുവരി 10-ന് നടരാജഗുരു പ്രസാദിന് ബ്രഹ്മചര്യ ദീക്ഷ നൽകുകയും, ‘മുനി നാരായണ പ്രസാദ്’ എന്ന പേരിൽ ഗുരുകുല പരമ്പരയിലേക്ക് ഔദ്യോഗികമായി സ്വീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ദീക്ഷ സ്വീകരിച്ചതിനെത്തുടർന്ന്, ഗുരുകുല പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിനായി പൂർണ്ണമായും ജീവിതം സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി ബ്രഹ്മചാരി മുനി നാരായണ പ്രസാദ് തന്റെ സർക്കാർ ജോലി രാജിവെച്ചു.
തുടർന്നുള്ള വർഷങ്ങളിൽ ബ്രഹ്മചാരി പ്രസാദ് സംഘടനാപരവും ആത്മീയപരവുമായ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട നിരവധി ചുമതലകൾ ഏറ്റെടുത്തു:
- 1971: നടരാജഗുരുവിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ കേരളത്തിലെ ശാസ്താംകോട്ടയിൽ നടന്ന വിശ്വമത സമ്മേളനത്തിന്റെ (World Parliament of Religions) ഓർഗനൈസിംഗ് സെക്രട്ടറിയായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു.
- 1968-1972 സമ്മേളനങ്ങൾ: നടരാജഗുരുവിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ഏഴിമലയിൽ നടന്ന ‘ഏകത്വ ദർശനത്തിലൂടെ ലോകസമാധാനം’ (Conference for World Peace through Unitive Understanding) എന്ന സമ്മേളന പരമ്പര നിയന്ത്രിച്ചു.
- 1973–1989: മലയാളം ‘ഗുരുകുലം’ മാസികയുടെ പത്രാധിപരായി പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു.
- 1985: ഗുരു നിത്യചൈതന്യ യതിയിൽ നിന്ന് സന്ന്യാസ ദീക്ഷ സ്വീകരിച്ചു.
- 1999: 1999 മെയ് 14-ന് ഗുരു നിത്യചൈതന്യ യതി സമാധിയായതിനെത്തുടർന്ന്, നാരായണ ഗുരുകുല പ്രസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ അധിപനും ഗുരുവുമായി ചുമതലയേറ്റു.

തന്റെ ചിന്താധാരകൾ പങ്കുവെക്കുന്നതിനായി ഗുരു മുനി നാരായണ പ്രസാദ് വിദേശരാജ്യങ്ങളിൽ വ്യാപകമായി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു:
- 1987 ഫെബ്രുവരി: മോസ്കോയിൽ നടന്ന ലോക മതനേതാക്കളുടെ വട്ടമേശ സമ്മേളനത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തു.
- 1989 – 1991: ഫിജി ദ്വീപുകളിലെ ഗീതാ ആശ്രമത്തിന്റെ അധിപനായി സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു.
- അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ക്ലാസുകൾ: അമേരിക്ക, മലേഷ്യ, ഓസ്ട്രേലിയ, ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട്, റഷ്യ, കൂടാതെ നിരവധി ഗൾഫ് രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും ഗുരു ആത്മീയ ക്ലാസുകൾ നയിച്ചു.
സാഹിത്യ സംഭാവനകളും പ്രധാന ബഹുമതികളും
നൂറിലധികം പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലും മലയാളത്തിലുമായി രചിച്ച അത്യന്തം പ്രതിഭാശാലിയായ ഒരു എഴുത്തുകാരനായിരുന്നു സ്വാമി മുനി നാരായണ പ്രസാദ്. പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട പത്ത് ഉപനിഷത്തുകളിൽ എട്ടെണ്ണത്തിനും, നാരായണഗുരുവിന്റെ വേദാന്തസൂത്രങ്ങൾക്കും, ഭഗവദ്ഗീതയ്ക്കും ഗുരു വ്യാഖ്യാനങ്ങൾ എഴുതിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. നാരായണഗുരുവിന്റെ സമ്പൂർണ്ണ കൃതികൾക്കു വ്യാഖ്യാനം എഴുതുകയും അവയെല്ലാം ഇംഗ്ലീഷിലേക്ക് വിവർത്തനം ചെയ്യുക എന്ന മഹത്തായ ദൗത്യം ഗുരു വിജയകരമായി പൂർത്തിയാക്കി.
സാഹിത്യത്തിനും സമൂഹത്തിനും നൽകിയ അസാധാരണമായ സംഭാവനകൾ പരിഗണിച്ച് ഗുരുവിന് പരമോന്നത ദേശീയ-പ്രാദേശിക പുരസ്കാരങ്ങൾ ലഭിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി:
- പത്മശ്രീ (2024): സാഹിത്യത്തിനും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിനും നൽകിയ സവിശേഷമായ സംഭാവനകൾ മാനിച്ച് ഭാരത സർക്കാർ പത്മശ്രീ നൽകി ആദരിച്ചു.
- കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ് (2018): ഗുരുവിന്റെ പ്രശസ്തമായ ‘ആത്മായനം’ എന്ന ആത്മകഥയ്ക്ക് പുരസ്കാരം ലഭിച്ചു.
- കേരള സാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാർഡ് (2015): ‘സൗന്ദര്യലഹരി’ എന്ന കൃതിയുടെ വിവർത്തനത്തിന് പുരസ്കാരം ലഭിച്ചു.

(9 December 1938 – 25 April 2026) was a renowned spiritual master, prolific author, and the head of Narayana Gurukulam—a spiritual and educational movement inspired by the philosophy of Narayana Guru. Guru wrote extensively on Indian philosophy and Vedanta, earning widespread acclaim for simplifying complex traditional texts to make them accessible to modern society.
Early Life and Education
M.N. Prasad was born on December 9, 1938, in Nagaroor, near Attingal in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. The son of a primary school teacher, Prasad completed his primary education at the very school where his father served as the headmaster. After completing his tenth grade, he enrolled in a technical institute to pursue a one-year course in Civil Engineering.
Entry into the Gurukulam Movement
Prasad’s lifelong association with the Narayana Gurukulam movement began in 1955 when he met Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati. After undergoing a short-term training program at the College of Engineering, Trivandrum, he joined the Kerala Government Service as a draftsman in 1958. During this period, he resided at the Varkala Gurukulam, beautifully balancing his professional duties with his spiritual life.
Spiritual Initiation and Leadership
On January 10, 1970, Nataraja Guru initiated Prasad into Brahmacharya (celibacy), officially welcoming him into the Gurukulam lineage under the name ‘Muni Narayana Prasad’. Following his initiation, Brahmachari Muni Narayana Prasad resigned from his government job to dedicate his life entirely to the Gurukulam movement.
Over the following decades, Brahmachari Prasad assumed several pivotal organizational and spiritual responsibilities:
- 1971: Served as the Organizing Secretary of the World Parliament of Religions held at Sasthamkotta, Kerala, under the leadership of Nataraja Guru.
- 1968–1972 Conferences: Managed the conference series titled ‘Conference for World Peace through Unitive Understanding’ held at Ezhimala under the guidance of Nataraja Guru.
- 1973–1989: Served as the Editor of the Malayalam magazine ‘Gurukulam’.
- 1985: Received Sanyasa (monastic) initiation from Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati.
- 1999: Following the Mahasamadhi of Guru Nitya Chaitanya Yati on May 14, 1999, he took over as the Guru and Head of the Narayana Gurukulam movement.
Global Endeavors
Guru Muni Narayana Prasad traveled extensively across the globe to share his philosophical insights:
- February 1987: Participated in the World Religious Leaders’ Round Table Conference held in Moscow.
- 1989 – 1991: Served as the Head of the Gita Ashram in the Fiji Islands.
- International Discourses: Conducted spiritual classes and discourses across the USA, Malaysia, Australia, England, Russia, and several Gulf countries.
Literary Contributions and Major Honors
An exceptionally gifted writer, Swami Muni Narayana Prasad authored over a hundred books in both English and Malayalam. He wrote comprehensive commentaries on eight of the ten major Upanishads, the Vedanta Sutras of Narayana Guru, as well as the Bhagavad Gita. He also successfully completed the monumental task of writing commentaries on the complete works of Sree Narayana Guru and translating them into English.
In recognition of his extraordinary contributions to literature and society, Guru was honoured with prestigious national and regional awards:
- Padma Shri (2024): Conferred by the Government of India for his distinguished service in the fields of Literature and Education.
- Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (2018): Awarded for his acclaimed autobiography, ‘Atmayanam’.
- Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award (2015): Awarded for his outstanding translation of the classical work ‘Saundarya Lahari’.
Mahasamadhi
Guru Muni Narayana Prasad attained Mahasamadhi on April 25, 2026, at Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram. Guru leaves behind an invaluable spiritual and literary legacy for all of humanity.
