Remembering Guru Muni: A Legacy of Compassion
Quote from Saleena Sadasivan on May 28, 2026, 3:54 pm
Guru Muni was an example of compassion and love, a devoted spiritual leader who dedicated his life to sharing the profound teachings of Sree Narayana Guru.
His commitment to sharing wisdom and love touched many hearts, leaving a lasting impression on knowing him.
My own journey with Guru Muni has been a long relationship as a student of the Gurukula, however the relationship deepened
during the creation of the documentary film “Guru Muni: Being and Becoming”, which celebrated his 85th birthday.
What began as an effort to support in the birthday celebrations transformed into a profound exploration of his life and philosophy.
We as devotees, felt compelled to share the wisdom we were gaining from his teachings, and although we were nervous and had doubts within, in how the documentary would be perceived,
Guru Muni’s openness, laughter and willingness to share made the experience unforgettable. He provided us with a creative freedom to express our visions with gentle guidance,
trusting in us to portray his life with authenticity.
A sense of freedom I had only experienced as a very young child, this trust inspired me to work with dedication and passion,
ensuring that I honoured his trust and legacy. Despite being a newcomer and not feeling like a member of the Gurukula family yet,
I was welcomed with warmth and kindness. I was not just a householder or a woman, I was embraced as a child given the freedom to explore and create
without the constraints of roles or gender or class. Guru Muni’s kindness and love resonated deeply within me,
and these memories are treasures I will pass down to my grandchildren.
Each time I returned to the Gurukula, I would be greeted as if I was returning home, enveloped in the love and his blessings he generously shared.
In one of our conversations, he heard I liked jackfruit, but I always missed the season. He had noted this, and when I returned to visit the Gurukula again,
I heard he had arranged for a jackfruit to be cut, which he is not often keen to do until they were ripe, and he waited for us all to visit and eat lunch together at the Gurukula,
a meal I will always remember prepared by another loving devotee. I feel eternally grateful to be part of the Gurukula family that he nurtured with such care and devotion.
As we reflect on his life and the legacy he leaves behind, let us forward the values of compassion, understanding and love that he embodied.
Guru Muni has gained samadhi, and his spirit and teachings will continue to guide us on our paths. 🌼❤️🙏🏽
