The Guru's unfathomable inner power

More than a decade long relationship with Prasad Guru revealed to me the profound and enigmatic power Guru possessed as a spiritual master. Guru possessed the extraordinary ability to perceive the thoughts of others and also to heal their emotional wounds. At times, Guru would astonish me by articulating the very thoughts and burdens that troubled my mind.

Once, I was seated in the prayer hall of Varkala Gurukula when Guru rang the bell, summoning me to Guru's presence. I approached Guru and without interrupting his writing, Guru simply shook his head in quiet disapproval before continuing his work. At first, I was bewildered, but then it dawned on me that Guru was rejecting a thought I had been silently contemplating.

This emboldened me to confide in Guru about one of the persistent torments that had long plagued my mind.

On the final day of my PhD thesis submission my files become unprintable after being corrupted by a virus, plunging me into an intensely tense and distressing situation. Only after several hours of painstaking efforts by experts were the files finally restored and recovered. Although I managed to submit the thesis at the eleventh hour, I could never fully recover from the trauma of the ordeal.

The same incident would recur in my dreams, each time unfolding through a different narrative and ending in a different way. It persisted for five long years, a reflection of how profoundly disturbed my unconscious mind had become.

One evening during Guru's evening walk I confided in Guru about the turmoil that had been afflicting my mind. Guru listened in silence, offering neither a response nor words of consolation.

To my astonishment, I soon ceased to have those disturbing dreams altogether. It was then that I came to understand that he possessed the rare ability to work upon the mind itself and restore it to a state of peace.
